WOR109 South Toulouse Metropolitan Funeral Center

We wanted the new Funeral Centre to be a haven of peace: a refuge that, with its solid presence, inspires calm and comfort, a building that embodies a certain kindness towards the public it welcomes, with timeless, local architecture.

On our visit to the town, where history has left many architectural traces dating back to Roman times, two particular examples caught our eye and inspired us. These architectural marvels reinforced our initial sketches, in which we reinterpreted three elements of local sacred architecture: the brick, the colonnade and the cloister, which proved to be perfect companions for eternity.

Four years and 150,000 bricks later, the public is finally here and can sense the benevolent spirit of the place that the building and its users have brought to life.
